Mattea Weinberg is a New York-born illustrator and K-12 Art Educator. She currently teaches in Burlington, Massachusetts. Mattea received a BFA in Illustration and a minor in Public Engagement from the Maine College of Art and Design (MECAD) in 2017 and returned to MECAD for her Master in the Arts of Teaching (MAT) degree in 2018.

My practice focuses on documentation, pattern-making, and reportage. I remain highly interested in ethnography and the relationships between objects. My usual medium is watercolor and ink.

When teaching, my job is to build my students’ confidence in their art and themselves. By creating a nurturing environment where experimentation and “mistakes” are encouraged, students can express themselves without fear of reprisal. This allows students to unveil their personal identities, experiment with topics that may be new to them, and have a safe place to discuss these topics and their work together as a community.
